One of the greatest de-stressors is the process of humming in a medium pitch level whilst drumming in a pattern that suits exactly the sort of “mood” you are in at that moment.  Brisbane business has been utilizing the drumming programs of “Drumfire Teambuilding’ to de-stress their teams and power up their people, this in turn brings about a feelings of wellness, calm, achievement, and better workplace attitudes.

Get Ready! Let’s Go! THE MUSIC LESSONS BEGIN - “FINDING PASSAGIO” with DRUMFIRE TEAMBUILDING

Your vocal muscles are folds which are able to change their thckness and length.  Ascending in pitch will see the vocal cords or folds lengthen and thinout, descending pitch patterns causes them to shorten and thicken.

Your singing is produced by air pushing through and acrosse the folds as they open and close this is known as “adducting”.

Adducting causes a vibrating pattern on the folds, and this is made louder (amplified) the natural resonators of the body. (the resonators will be described in the next post).

Now during all this pitch movement, there are zones of the voice that particular notes sit in, and these notes have an “insecurity” as to where to be sung, so they are shaky in tone and quality, it may crack, or break, and there can be difficulty in blending a mix.

These are called the transition zones. or the Bridge - also known as “Passaggio”.

Get Ready! Let’s Go! THE MUSIC LESSONS BEGIN - “PASSAGIO” with DRUMFIRE TEAMBUILDING

Passaggio, or bridge, crossing, break is used to define the transition point between the registers of the voice.   The transition points occur in different places with each individual occurring generally 3-4 semitones above and below C4.

Drumfire Teambuilding conducts Masterclasses on Songwriting techniques and Vocal Training for Conference Teambuilding.  This is a lot of fun for beginners through to all levels of fun singing.

Get Ready! Let’s Go! THE MUSIC LESSONS BEGIN - “THE CHEST VOICE”

Alright now!  we have learnt about the falsetto voice, lets talk about the voice you “talk” in, and how it works as a singing voice.  Your chest voice is the voice that most people speak with.,  the singing voice from the chest is a deep full sound, This is a simple form of singing, which has a certain amount of singing notes within it before needing to move up into the “middle” register.

Let’s try it, sit up straight, relax you face and jawline, let the jaw drop, let the teeth remain slightly apart, now barely put you lip together and hum, the only thing between your sound and audibility by others, is the slight touching of the lips, now as you hum if you feel slight vibrations on your lips, you are doing everything right!

You’re happening!

Get Ready! Let’s Go! THE MUSIC LESSONS BEGIN - “FALSETTO”

The vocal folds - think of elastic like stuff and fatty tissue…

These folds are coated with a mucous membrane, supported underneath the thyro-arytenoid muscle fibres. Now the clever way that falsetto works is that the only parts vibrating are the edges, which are the extreme membranous tissue, also the furthest away from the centre of the oval gap.  the thyro-arytenoid muscule does not move, it remains still….

Get Ready! Let’s Go! THE MUSIC LESSONS BEGIN - “FALSETTO”

So now we know about “chest voice” lets talk about “falsetto”.

Here we see that the vocal folds are blown through, and a permanent orifice is kept between the edges of the the muscular folds, air passes though continuously, at a certain volume, for as long as this high part of the voice is needed.

The size of the orifice may vary from singer to singer, but with increased air pressure this orifice will get bigger.

Welcome to “capitis” voice…..”Falsetto”
